FHSA was founded in the spring of 2000 by Roland Victor and Mathilde Time when they, together with a solid committee at the University of South Florida (USF), gathered for the first time to make history by uniting all the Haitian student clubs [in Florida]. This original committee worked assiduously to establish what would be a model organization that all Haitian students everywhere could follow and be identified with. The reactions at the conventions were very encouraging. It was as if their [the students] spirits were joyously crying of this long overdue convention that gave birth to the Florida Haitian Student Association Incorporated. FHSA's constitution was immediately implemented that following summer by a special group of students from around the state. This group traveled tirelessly every weekend to alternating schools to guarantee a sound foundation for the organization. This special group is known as the founding members and a listing of the founding members is available in the constitution.
